Finding Short Story Ideas

Not everyone thinks that they can write, and there are truly some people that simply can not do it. However, most can in some way, and it is a great thing that just about anyone can do to get some creative energy out there. If we dont have a way to express ourselves, we can be depressed and tend to enjoy life less. One great way to write is to have a journal, but for some, they want to do something a bit more. You can try to find short story ideas to see what you can come up with. Who know? You may have a hidden talent of which you were not aware.

You can find short story ideas almost anywhere. The problem that most people have, myself included sometimes, is that they think too hard about what they wish to write about. A short story is just that: short. You dont have to have a long winding plot to get a good one to come out of your head. The best short story ideas are the small and simple ones that dont leave a lot of room for major growth. That way, you know the story will be short, and will not be something that leaves you wanting to add more when you are done.

One of the best ways to come up with short story ideas would be to sit down with a notebook and start thinking about your day. What happened? Did you see something that caught your eye? What was it? Did you see someone miss a bus? Did they have an unusual reaction? If they did, you may want to think what could have led to that reaction. Through that, you may already have a great idea for short story. It can really be that simple. Jot down a list of things and see which ones form an idea for an entire story in your mind.

You can also get some ideas for short stories by asking your children, spouse, and friends if they saw anything unusual or just plain interesting throughout their day. You may even notice that people tell you things like this all of the time, but you never thought of the potential they had to be a very interesting short story ideas. What can be very cool about such stories is that though some do seem simple, they can bloom into a full blown book. You may never publish it, but you will get a lot out of just writing and finishing it.
