The first complete Bible concordance was someone's life work. It literally took a Bible scholar decades and decades of work to come up with a searchable concordance of the Bible. Of course, this was before the age of computers so it was quite an impressive feat. I wonder how he would have felt if he had seen things get to the point where they are today. We have a luxury that none of our ancestors had. We can find any Bible verse anytime we want simply by searching an online biblical reference site.
Obviously, this is a good resource for finding quotable bible verses. If you want a Biblical quote for a wedding, funeral, or some other notable event, you can always find one quickly. It is also good for debates with atheists or people from other denominations of course. More importantly, however, it is a good tool for deepening our own faith and relationship with Christ. When I'm beset by worries late in the night, it is wonderful to be able to boot my computer and search biblical advice on whatever happens to be bothering me at the moment. Rather than spending hours looking for just the right Bible verse, I can spend seconds and have dozens of them at my disposal. There has never been a better time For the religious among us.
Another great thing is that most of these biblical verses are linked to online communities of believers. Now I know as well as anyone that your core community should be within your church, but it is great to be able to bond in fellowship with Christians all over the globe over discussions of particularly significant Bible verses. You can enrich your own experience, deepen your knowledge of the holy Bible, and make friends around the globe! Never before has the church been so united beyond regional, national, and cultural boundaries.
One of the most interesting things about all these searchable Bibles is being able to find Bible verses from different editions. You can look at a scholar's Bible, King James version, and one of dozens of other versions at the same time. You can call up the original Greek or Hebrew at the touch of a button, and consult dozens of scholarly sources. Of course, with all this knowledge comes difficulties. Navigating Bible verses with an eye towards accuracy can be difficult for new believers as some of these Bibles stray further from the original than others. Still, it is a problem that can be overcome.
