Depending on the severity of the drug or alcohol problem, there are a variety of treatment options out there that could work very well. When trying to overcome these problems, it is important to make the most of your choices, and get into the right program for the highest instance of success. Some have to go through rehab quite a few times before it works, but it is always worth the effort. Some choose to go to residential treatment centers when they feel that need more structured help with their problems.
Some with dependency issues can do outpatient rehab. This would be ideal for everyone, but is not always the right answer. What can happen is those with severe problems can slip very easily with this as they have freedom to go about their life after treatment each day or however often they go each week. When they have that freedom, things happen. If this does not work out, many will move on to residential treatment centers to make sure they do not have those temptations anywhere near them.
If someone has been in trouble with the law, they may have no choice but to go to residential treatment centers, as it can be a part of their sentence. At times, they can avoid jail if they complete the program. You may see that there are a lot of teenagers and young adults that are going through programs at residential treatment centers because they have had problems. Judges usually know when they are dealing with someone who would not have broken the law if they were not under the influence of something like drugs and/or alcohol.
What is special about residential treatment centers is that they are so strict. That does not sound like a lot of fun, but there is nothing fun about rehab. You have to remember that you are doing this to get your life back, and that is not always an easy thing. Drugs and alcohol alter the brain, making you someone you never would have been - and that is never a good thing. When you go through programs at residential treatment centers, the strict rules are going to be of great benefit to you, even though it might not seem like it at the time.
What can be hard about residential treatment centers is that some are better than others. If you are going to one because you have committed a crime, you may not have any choice of where you are going to go. Not all are created equal. This means you could have some huge problems. What you want to do, if you are in residential treatment centers that are not to your liking, is to deal with it as best as you can. If you mess up, you could end up in jail. Do what they want you to do, follow each rule (even if you think it is silly), and do your best to get better.
