That way, you know the story will be short, and will not be something that leaves you wanting to add more when you are done.

Did you see someone miss a bus? Did they have an unusual reaction? If they did, you may want to think what could have led to that reaction. Through that, you may already have a great idea for short story. It can really be that simple. Jot down a list of things and see which ones form an idea for an entire story in your mind.
